About Potomac Mules
Potomac Mules has been in operation since 1995. From 1995 to 2002 I was working for and renting mules and
equipment to the Rich Ranch, Seeley Lake, MT. While at the Rich Ranch, I supervised
trail clearing crews on 50 miles of USFS trails almost every spring, so the trails would be
cleared for the early float trips on the South Fork of the Flathead River in the Bob
Marshall Wilderness. I was also head packer for the Rich Ranch from 1997 to 2002, making trips into the wilderness for up
to 10 days with 5-15 people. I usually traveled 10-20 miles a day when I was moving camps.
In 2002, I decided that I wanted to see some new and different country. Performing
USFS contracts would be one way to do that. In 2002, I completed two USFS
contracts and also did packing for Rich Ranch and Tim Herman, a USFS
contractor in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. During the summer of 2003, I completed a 100-mile trail clearing contract for
the USFS in the Sellway-Bitterroot Wilderness. And I also completed a seven-day pack trip for the Rocky Mountain
Research Station across the Scapegoat Wilderness.
Before moving to Montana, I owned and operated a dairy for 30 years, milking 250 cows
and farming up to 1000 acres in Western Washington. I am well suited for hard
work and long hours; and hiring and supervising people comes easy to me as I always had
employees on the dairy.
There are numerous pictures and several narratives on the website [use pull-down menu] to give you an idea regarding Potomac Mules' equipment and experience.
